_____________________________________________________________

Introduced in 1978, the Model 622 Caño Largo replaced the 'long barrel' options of the prior
Model 62
and Model 64. The Model 622 CL differs in featuring a slide mounted hammer-blocking safety, a magazine disconnect safety and a dedicated barrel pin --this last innovation frees the slide catch pivot to serve simultaneously as the trigger pin. More significantly, the Model 622 CL has no dedicated recoil spring guide-rod, and used the barrel itself for that purpose. Field stripping was made much easier via a new takedown latch right under the slide's muzzle port.

Disassembly begins with unscrewing the barrel bushing and removing the front sight. This is followed by pressing the takedown latch (upwards) to allow full rearward travel (against recoil spring pressure) of the slide until it completely disengages from the frame rails. The rear  of the slide can then be lifted upward slightly, and the slide eased forward, and off the barrel. Removal of the slide catch and several pins allows further and further disassembly.

The Model 622 Caño Largo was in production until it was succeeded by the Model 226, which was introduced in 1983 along with the rest of Bersa's third generation of pistols
